Macro Photography – Extension Tubes

Having recently invested in a new set of macro extension tubes for our Canon DSLRs, we wanted to share some images taken using a standard 50mm 1.8 and 36mm tube.

These hollow tubes allow you to get much closer to your subject giving you a ‘macro’ effect, without having to invest in dedicated macro lenses which can be expensive.  We primarily need macro for shots of wedding rings, these need to be very detailed and sharp in exactly the right place.  Ring shots are an important aspect of wedding photography and a lot of our clients will request these images at the consultation stage.

Mostly you find extension tubes will come as a set of three, each of a different size.  We found the most useful combination to be the 50mm lens and the 36mm tube.
